Compare the2025 Buick EnvistaVS 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser

In a Vehicle-to-Vehicle Frontal Crash Prevention 2.0 test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), the Buick Envista achieved a “Acceptable” rating - the second highest possible - for its performance in forward collision warning and automatic braking systems, demonstrating its excellent capabilities in preventing collisions. The Toyota Land Cruiser has not been tested.

For better protection of the passenger compartment, the Envista uses safety cell construction with a three-dimensional high-strength frame that surrounds the passenger compartment. It provides extra impact protection and a sturdy mounting location for door hardware and side impact beams. The Land Cruiser uses a body-on-frame design, which has no frame members above the floor of the vehicle.

Both the Envista and the Land Cruiser have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems and rear cross-path warning.

The Envista’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Land Cruiser’s (6 vs. 5 years).

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Buick vehicles are better in initial quality than Toyota vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Buick above average in initial quality. With 28 more problems per 100 vehicles, Toyota is rated lower.

On the EPA test cycle the Envista gets better fuel mileage than the Land Cruiser (28 city/32 hwy vs. 22 city/25 hwy).

Both the Envista and Land Cruiser have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stoplights and heavy traffic. The Envista has a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily.

The Envista has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Land Cruiser doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

The Envista stops shorter than the Land Cruiser:

The Envista Preferred’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 60 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Land Cruiser 1958’s standard 70 series tires. The Envista’s optional tires have a lower 45 series profile than the Land Cruiser’s optional 60 series tires.

The Envista has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Land Cruiser doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

For superior ride and handling, the Buick Envista has fully independent front and semi-independent rear suspensions. An independent suspension allows the wheels to follow the road at the best angle for gripping the pavement, without compromising ride comfort. The Toyota Land Cruiser has a solid rear axle, with a non-independent rear suspension.

The Envista Avenir handles at .83 G’s, while the Land Cruiser pulls only .69 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Envista Sport Touring executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.8 seconds quicker than the Land Cruiser (27.9 seconds @ .59 average G’s vs. 29.7 seconds @ .55 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Envista’s turning circle is 2 feet tighter than the Land Cruiser’s (37.4 feet vs. 39.4 feet). The Envista w/18-19” Wheels’ turning circle is 1 foot tighter than the Land Cruiser’s (38.4 feet vs. 39.4 feet).

The Buick Envista may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 2200 to 2300 pounds less than the Toyota Land Cruiser.

The Envista is 1 foot, 1.8 inches shorter than the Land Cruiser, making the Envista easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Envista is 6.4 inches narrower than the Land Cruiser, making the Envista easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The Envista is 14.5 inches shorter in height than the Land Cruiser, making the Envista much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

Unibody construction lowers the Envista’s center of gravity significantly without reducing ground clearance. This contributes to better on the road handling and better off-road performance and stability. In addition, unibody construction makes the chassis stiffer, improving handling and reducing squeaks and rattles. The Land Cruiser doesn’t use unibody construction, but a body-on-frame design.

The front grille of the Envista uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Land Cruiser doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Envista uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Land Cruiser doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The Envista has 8.9 inches more front legroom and 12 inches more rear legroom than the Land Cruiser.

The Envista can be flat towed on all four wheels (dinghy towed), allowing recreational vehicle owners to bring it with them on the road. When they reach their destination, the Envista can be unhitched and driven around locally. The Land Cruiser can’t be towed flat on the ground.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Buick service is better than Toyota. J.D. Power ranks Buick 9th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 20% lower rating, Toyota is ranked 24th.

In case you lock your keys in your vehicle, or don’t have them with you, you can let yourself in using the Envista’s available exterior PIN entry system. The Land Cruiser doesn’t offer an exterior PIN entry system.

The Envista Avenir’s standard rear view mirror and optional side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Land Cruiser has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

Consumer Reports® recommends the Buick Envista, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Toyota Land Cruiser isn't recommended.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Envista third among small suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The Land Cruiser isn’t in the top three.

The Buick Envista outsold the Toyota Land Cruiser by almost two to one during 2024.
