Safety

Both the Hummer EV Pickup and 1500 TRX have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Hummer EV Pickup has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The 1500 TRX’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The Hummer EV Pickup’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the 1500 TRX.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Hummer EV Pickup has standard Rear Cross Traffic Alert, helping the driver avoid collisions. Ram charges extra for Rear Cross Path Detection on the 1500 TRX.

The Hummer EV Pickup’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The 1500 TRX doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Hummer EV Pickup and the 1500 TRX have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rearview cameras.

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup weighs 2546 pounds more than the Ram 1500 TRX. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

The Hummer EV Pickup’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the 1500 TRX’s (6 vs. 5 years).

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that GMC vehicles are more reliable than Ram With 74 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks GMC higher than Ram.

Engine

The Hummer EV Pickup’s electric motors produces 298 more horsepower (1000 vs. 702) and 10850 lbs.-ft. more torque (11500 vs. 650) than the 1500 TRX’s 6.2 supercharged V8.

The Hummer EV Pickup can travel with zero emissions for 298 to 314 miles (dependent on model). The 1500 TRX can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the Hummer EV Pickup’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The 1500 TRX doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The Hummer EV Pickup, as a pure battery electric vehicle, has no need to “idle” its motors in traffic: they only burn power when moving. The Hummer EV Pickup’s climate control systems still work completely when the vehicle is stopped. The 1500 TRX still runs its internal combustion engine whenever it’s stopped, burning excess fuel.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the GMC Hummer EV Pickup higher (10 out of 10) than the Ram 1500 TRX (1). This means the Hummer EV Pickup produces up to 58.8 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the 1500 TRX every 15,000 miles.

Tires and Wheels

The Hummer EV Pickup’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 1500 TRX’s 65 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Hummer EV Pickup has standard 22-inch wheels. The 1500 TRX’s largest wheels are only 18-inches.

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup’s wheels have 8 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Ram 1500 TRX only has 6 wheel lugs per wheel.

Suspension and Handling

For superior ride and handling, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup has fully independent front and rear suspensions. An independent suspension allows the wheels to follow the road at the best angle for gripping the pavement, without compromising ride comfort. The Ram 1500 TRX has a solid rear axle, with a non-independent rear suspension.

The Hummer EV Pickup’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the 1500 TRX’s (57.4% to 42.6%). This gives the Hummer EV Pickup more stable handling and braking.

The Hummer EV Pickup handles at .73 G’s, while the 1500 TRX pulls only .70 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the Hummer EV Pickup 2’s turning circle is 4 feet tighter than the 1500 TRX’s (44.3 feet vs. 48.3 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Hummer EV Pickup 2X/3X has a 4.1 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the 1500 TRX (15.9 vs. 11.8 inches), allowing the Hummer EV Pickup to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

The Hummer EV Pickup is 1 foot, 4.1 inches shorter than the 1500 TRX, making the Hummer EV Pickup easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the Hummer EV Pickup uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The 1500 TRX doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Passenger Space

The Hummer EV Pickup has 1.6 inches more front headroom and 4.7 inches more front legroom than the 1500 TRX.

Cargo Capacity

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup has a standard EZ Lift Tailgate, which prevents the heavy tailgate from falling with a crash and causing injury. It allows adults and children to easily open and close the tailgate with one hand to better facilitate loading and unloading. The Ram 1500 TRX doesn’t offer a tailgate assist.

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup has a standard rear cargo step, which folds out and allows for much easier access to the cargo area. The Ram 1500 TRX doesn’t offer a rear cargo step.

Ergonomics

The Hummer EV Pickup’s standard easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The 1500 TRX doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The Hummer EV Pickup’s front and rear power windows all lower with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The 1500 TRX’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open them fully.

On a hot day the Hummer EV Pickup’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the 1500 TRX can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Hummer EV Pickup’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The 1500 TRX’s standard intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

The Hummer EV Pickup’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The 1500 TRX offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The Hummer EV Pickup has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the 1500 TRX.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the 1500 TRX.

The Hummer EV Pickup’s Enhanced Automatic Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The 1500 TRX doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
